• うえue上on top / above
• したshita下under / below
• なかnaka中inside

• あいだaida間between
• ちかくchikaku近くnear / nearby
• よこyoko横beside
• ありますarimasuthere is (for non-living things) — つくえのうえにほんがあります = there is a book on the desk
• いますimasuthere is (for living things) — へやにねこがいます = there is a cat in the room
• あります・いますarimasu / imasuthe rule: use あります for things, います for people and animals
• ありませんarimasenthere isn't (for things) — negative of あります
• いませんimasenthere isn't (for living things) — negative of います
• 〜はどこですか~ wa doko desu kawhere is ~? — トイレはどこですか = where is the toilet?
