• 是 (to be — A 是 B)我是学生。I am a student.
• 不 (negation — not, before verbs/adjectives)我不喝咖啡。I don't drink coffee.
• 不是 (is not — negating 是)他不是我哥哥。He is not my older brother.
• 的 (possessive / modifier — 's, of)这是我妈妈的家。This is my mom's home.
• 吗 (yes-no question — sentence-final particle)你是学生吗？Are you a student?
