- kiasuafraid to lose out — grabby or competitive (from Hokkien) — "so kiasu, queue since 5am"
- kiasiafraid to die — overly cautious or scaredy-cat (from Hokkien)
- atashigh-class, posh or a bit snobby (from Malay 'upstairs')
- blurclueless, confused or slow to catch on — "don't be so blur"
- chopeto reserve a seat, classically with a packet of tissue on the table
- lepakto chill, hang out and do nothing (from Malay) — "let's lepak at the void deck"
- saboto sabotage or play a prank on someone — "don't sabo me!"
- bojio'you never invited me!' — complaint about being left out (from Hokkien)
- jioto invite or ask someone along (from Hokkien) — "jio me next time!"
- ang moha Westerner / Caucasian person (Hokkien for 'red hair')
- auntie / unclefriendly way to address an older stranger, e.g. a hawker or taxi driver
- kenato get hit with or suffer something (from Malay) — "kena fined for jaywalking"
