- اalifa long 'a' as in 'father'; at word-start it is mainly a silent seat/carrier for short vowels
- بbelike the 'b' in 'bat'
- پpelike the 'p' in 'pen' (Urdu/Persian-specific letter, not in Arabic)
- تtea soft dental 't', tongue against the upper teeth, like 't' in Spanish 'taco'
- ٹṭea hard retroflex 't', tongue curled back behind the ridge; like 't' in 'top' but tighter (Urdu-specific)
- ثselike the 's' in 'sun' (in Urdu pronounced as a plain 's')
- جjimlike the 'j' in 'jam'
- چchelike the 'ch' in 'church' (Urdu/Persian-specific letter)
- حbaṛī hea breathy 'h', like the 'h' in 'hat' (in Urdu pronounced the same as ہ)
